Someone Else

Shilpa Gupta, Arnolfini, 2012

a black cloud

of microphones

i want to fly

obscuration

as a threat

if it could

be innocent

i want to fly

away

THERE

ARE

NO

BORDERS

[the phrase

in tape

wasn’t obscured

but

when i google it now

it’s lost]

shelves of books

cast in metal

i want to fly

a

way

Not a Chrome Effigy of All Our Ideals

this is the way

it always was

bound, controlling

i sat there reading

cover face down

civility mediates

sex, originating

from outside us

the smooth

cold exteriors

were gesticulations

cordoned, that is

violence endowed

“plausible deniability”

unlit windows

and slate grey sky
