Nothing is lost

as we search

pockets scattered

on the ground

and there is

a tear we donʼt

want to believe

ushering us away

to somewhere

assuredly safe

In the morning

whispers return

just to look

and we discover

a river moving

slowly

not knowing

if it wants us to

inch closer

as we nurse

a lawless desire

to drown

our hands

in its cold waters
