Beachcombing by L Kiew

What the sea has sucked smooth

and spat: green glass, ghostcrab

shell, once-jagged can, bottle-tops,

a doll’s pink head, ripped fishing net,

rusty starfish. Sandflies agitate

as sand settles in my wake.

I’m not sure I’m scrying for.

Tattered tells, some element,

urchin fragments

among the flotsam.
