2 poems by Jared Schwartz

Roadkill

Like boiling snow heaped beside the causeway,

they melt and wail in the petroleum silence,

teeming with empty and hair.

They were individuals.

The opossum with her seven children

and the raccoon clutching a can of soup.

Northport (after Samuel Menashe)

Three of four smoke stacks

Sighing white plumes

Standing before

The silent dunes.
